My Story…

Please join me and team Annex Cat Rescue (ACR) with a generous donation to help street cats in need. We are a 100% volunteer organization, so almost every dollar we raise goes directly toward medical care for the cats we help. And an incredibly generous donor is matching the first $20,000 in donations again this year, so your donation will go twice as far!

This year I have a new houseful of foster cats who are my inspiration to run and fundraise for ACR:

- Reggie, a pint-sized 9 year old puffball who spent 6 years surviving alone outside, until she was found unresponsive in a snowbank this winter. She had escaped shortly after adoption, but her adopter didn't do a proper search, notify ACR, or want her back when she was finally rescued by a good samaritan who took her to a shelter. Reggie was emaciated, frostbitten, had a painful mouth, and had contracted FIV, but she is thrilled to be back inside where it's always warm and there is unlimited food available (she hasn't stopped eating since she was rescued...)

- Chilli, a 4 year old ginger boy who suffered his second urinary blockage in August, and was also diagnosed with asthma and heart disease while he was hospitalized. On top of all of his other health issues, he has been dealing with eye ulcers and infections. He and his brother Pepper (aka Orange Pepper) are incredibly nervous boys, but poor Chilli bravely tolerates asthma puffers, pills and eye drops (his least favourite) multiple times a day, and they are slowly coming out of their shell, exploring the house, and letting their guard down to play.

- Pepper (aka Black Pepper), a sweet, playful & affectionate 4 year old house panther who was adopted from ACR as a kitten. A family member upset about allergies dumped Pepper and her sister Nova in an industrial area when their adopter was out of town on a work trip, and luckily the kitties caught the eye of another rescuer who was able to trap them and bring them inside a month later. Their distraught adopter surrendered them back to ACR as she could no longer guarantee their safety. Pepper has made herself at home, waking me up with nose boops, playing with Biscuit and Comet, and chirping to say hi whenever I pass by. My heart breaks that there are people out there who could throw such a sweet and loving cat away like garbage.

(Important note: The vast majority of our cats are treasured by their adopters, and these situations are rare outliers. We are so grateful that Reggie, Pepper & Nova found their way back to ACR through their microchips. To help keep our cats safe, we guarantee to always take them back, for any reason, at any point in their lives.)

Thank you for your support! Reggie, Chilli and the Peppers alone have needed over $10,000 of medical care this year, and that is after the true cost has already been subsidized by our generous veterinary partners. Multiply this across the 213 foster cats in our care right now, as well as the feral colonies we manage, and the street cat medical emergencies we assist with, and our total costs are immense. Every dollar you donate makes a difference to a cat in need of medical care. <3
