My Story…

I want to share a story about resilience, patience, and quiet strength.
In February 2020, Bruce was a “little dragon” at Evoke Martial Arts. He had just earned his orange stripe and was incredibly proud. A few weeks later, he began complaining of back pain. Months passed, and then his wrist started to hurt. By December 2020, Bruce could no longer move his right wrist and had to step away from the sport he loved.
A year and a half later, he was diagnosed with Juvenile Idiopathic Arthritis. His right wrist had only half the strength of his left, and he was living with daily pain.
Since then, Bruce has shown remarkable perseverance—committing to regular physiotherapy at Toronto Kids Physio and navigating various treatments to manage his condition.
In Fall 2025, Bruce decided he was ready to return to martial arts—despite understandable nerves. The team at Evoke Martial Arts welcomed him back with open arms, creating a space where he could rebuild both his strength and his confidence.
Last month, we received incredible news: his right wrist is now nearly as strong as his left.
And today, Bruce took another big step forward. He faced his fears, stepped onto the mat, and earned his yellow stripe—proving that a paused journey is never a finished one.
Bruce reminds us that while his joints may be inflamed, his spirit is unstoppable.
