My Story…
If you had told me a year ago that I would be training for my first marathon, I probably wouldn't have believed you.
My running journey started with encouragement from my sister and a close friend, who inspired me to simply give it a try. What began as a way to become healthier gradually became something much more. With every mile, I discovered that running isn't just about fitness - it's about resilience, perseverance, and learning that we are capable of doing hard things. Every challenging run became a reminder that growth often begins with a simple decision to take action and step outside our comfort zones.
When the opportunity came to run the 2026 Philadelphia Marathon for Team Takeda in support of the American Association for Cancer Research (AACR), I knew it was a challenge worth taking on. Running 26.2 miles will undoubtedly test me physically and mentally, but it is a privilege to use this race to support a mission that impacts so many lives.
As difficult as marathon training can be, it will never compare to what my Aunt Mei (三三阿姨) and my nephew, Q, endured through their cancer journeys. This race is dedicated to my Aunt Mei's memory and in celebration of Q's incredible strength and resilience.
Our family experienced firsthand how quickly life can change after a cancer diagnosis. Suddenly, everyday routines were replaced by countless medical appointments, hours spent researching treatments, difficult conversations, and anxiously waiting and praying for good news. There were moments when we felt helpless, knowing there was little we could do except support one another, remain hopeful, and simply be there for each other.
Those experiences gave me an even deeper appreciation for the researchers, physicians, healthcare professionals, and organizations working tirelessly to advance cancer research and improve patient outcomes. At Takeda, one of the principles that resonates deeply with me is "Patients First." Working here has reinforced something our family's experience had already taught us: every patient is far more than a diagnosis or a statistic. Every patient has a unique story, a family, dreams, and loved ones hoping for more time together.
I've always loved the word sonder - the realization that every person is living a life as vivid and complex as our own. That perspective reminds me why this work matters. Behind every breakthrough is a patient hoping for more birthdays, more milestones, and more moments with the people they love. Progress happens because people choose to invest in hope, innovation, and the next breakthrough.
By supporting this fundraiser, you're helping make that progress possible. Every contribution - no matter the size - helps fund research that has the potential to improve treatments, save lives, and bring hope to patients and families facing one of life's toughest battles.
Thank you for supporting Team Takeda, AACR, and this cause that means so much to me.
Every mile I run is in memory of my Aunt Mei, in honor of my nephew Q's victory over cancer, and for every patient and family whose lives have been forever changed by this disease.
Thank you for helping turn each mile into hope. 🙏
Sincerely,
Scion
