The Folding Mountain Ultra is a celebration of grit, camaraderie, and big-mountain running on the edge of Jasper National Park. Set against the dramatic backdrop of the Fiddle Range and Athabasca Valley, runners take on rugged alpine terrain, exposed ridgelines, and sweeping views that define the Rockies.
With 25KM, 60KM Solo, and 60KM Relay distances, this event offers something for both seasoned ultrarunners and those ready to take on their first big mountain challenge. Expect steep climbs, rewarding descents, and a mountain experience that will push and inspire you in equal measure.
Our start and finish line at Folding Mountain Landing – home to Folding Mountain Brewing, Jasper East Cabins, and Jasper East Hostel – will be alive all day with music, food, and race-day energy. Whether you’re racing, crewing, or cheering, this is the kind of place you’ll want to stay awhile.
Nestled at the entrance to Jasper National Park, this is one of the most stunning regions in Canada, surrounded by endless opportunities for adventure. From hiking and hot springs to lakes, bike trails, and mountain-town dining, it’s a wonderful destination for runners, families, and outdoor enthusiasts alike.

Distance: 60km
Elevation Gain: 2,430m | 7,9724ft
Terrain: Technical, steep, (!) scree (!)
Cutoff Time: 14hrs
The 60KM course delivers the ultimate Folding Mountain Ultra experience, split into two unique and equally epic legs.
Leg 1 – Cap Ridge Loop (35KM)
Climb roughly 900m in the first 15KM to crest Cap Ridge before cruising back down to Folding Mountain Landing. The terrain mixes steep early climbs with rolling ridgelines and fast, runnable descents — a perfect opening act before the real test begins.
Leg 2 – Folding Mountain Trail (25KM)
Leaving base camp, you’ll start with an immediate grind — about 980m of climbing over 9KM, with nearly 660m packed into the first 4KM. It’s steep, it’s relentless, and it’s going to test your grit early. Above treeline, the trail rolls through alpine forest and open ridgelines with views that’ll stop you in your tracks.
(!) SCREE SECTION (!)
Near the summit, you’ll cross a short scree section — loose gravel on a steep slope that requires confident footing. It’s short, technical, and completely worth it. Cresting the top of Folding Mountain, you’ll be rewarded with one of the most stunning panoramic views in the Canadian Rockies.
From the summit, the trail drops fast. The descent back toward Folding Mountain Landing winds through alpine meadows and forest, with big mountain views at every turn. As you lose elevation, the terrain becomes smoother and faster — a mix of technical footing and runnable stretches that bring you back to base camp, where the finish line energy will pull you in for the final push.
The 60KM can be raced solo or as a two-person relay team, with the exchange point at base camp between legs.
*Course routes are subject to change. Final maps and GPX downloads will be released in Spring 2026.
Distance: 25km
Elevation Gain: 1086m | 3,560ft
Terrain: Technical, Steep
Cutoff Time: 14hrs
An out-and-back route up Folding Mountain, this 25KM course captures everything that makes the Rockies special — runnable trails, steep climbs, and sweeping views that only get better the higher you go.
Starting at Folding Mountain Landing, runners head out on a flat and fast 6.5KM section to the first aid station before turning back toward base camp. Once back at the main transition area, the real challenge begins — the climb up the Folding Mountain Trail.
Leaving the Landing, you’ll start with an immediate grind — about 980m of climbing over 9KM, with nearly 660m packed into the first 4KM. The trail winds through forest and open ridgelines, offering stunning views of Roche Perdrix (the entrance to Jasper National Park) and the Athabasca River Valley below.
There are plenty of runnable sections along the way, and the views only get better as you climb. You’ll reach the false summit aid station, perched just before the mountain’s scree section — a breathtaking turnaround point where the Rockies stretch endlessly around you.
From there, it’s time to let gravity take over. The descent down Folding Mountain is fast, flowy, and unforgettable; a cruisy dream of smooth trail, mountain air, and panoramic views all the way back to Folding Mountain Landing, where the finish line, music, and cold beer await.
*Course routes are subject to change. Final maps and GPX downloads will be released in Spring 2026.
