Our Story

Over the next months, we will raise funds for Campfire Circle, where kids with cancer don't have to worry about anything other than how cold the water is for the morning Polar Plunge. 

Edyn wore the same onesie for 9 of the 14 days she was at camp, only giving it up for a bathing suit or laundry days. She loved the swims, the food, the campfire skits and songs. Edyn spent her days outdoors, being active and silly, hunting for frogs, swimming, paddling, and climbing on the high ropes course. Most of all, she laughed a lot, and slept hard.

After all of this time, Edyn is remembered by counsellors and camp friends as the one who held the hands of fellow campers in the Med Shed, telling stories in her animated way, distracting the campers from the only clinical part of their day.

When we picked Edyn up at camp, she was so happy to see us she ran across the field with her new found crooked gait. She was sad to say goodbye to her new friends, promising to stay in touch and see them next year. Surrounded by counsellors with so many stories, and intently watching Edyn say her goodbyes, we forgot to take a tour of camp. One of these days, we will take the time to visit.

Bring Joy, Friendship, and Connection to Kids Who Need It Most

Every day, thousands of kids across Ontario face cancer or serious illness – and miss out on the moments that make up childhood. Laughter, friendship, and adventure are replaced with hospital visits and isolation.

 For 42 years, Campfire Circle (formerly Camp Ooch & Camp Trillium) has brought healing through happiness to kids with cancer or serious illness and their families. Through our in-hospital, community, and overnight camp programs, we create opportunities for children to build friendships and social skills, develop self-confidence and resiliency, and improve their overall well-being. By providing play-based experiences, we empower kids to take back their childhood, regardless of their medical diagnosis.

But today, more than 40,000 children in Ontario are living with serious illnesses. With your help, we can reach even more of them.

Our goal is to serve 10,000 kids by 2030, and when you donate to the Sporting Life 10K, you join a circle committed to that vision. Your generosity ensures every medically fragile child can experience Campfire Circle’s life-changing programs when they need it most, at no cost to their families.

Together, we can grow our circle of care and help deliver healing through happiness to more kids and families across Ontario.
