Our Story

In March 2023, our world was turned upside down when our son, Kade, was diagnosed with leukemia. The news was devastating, but the strength, resilience, and courage Kade showed throughout his battle have been nothing short of inspiring.

During the many long months/years of treatment and hospital stays, Kade found comfort, joy, and support from the amazing team at SickKids Hospital and the wonderful people at Campfire Circle. They were there for him when he needed a distraction from the pain — playing, crafting, and engaging in fun activities during his chemotherapy treatments. Their support didn’t stop at the hospital. Campfire circle made sure Kade was able to safely attend summer camp, where he could connect with other kids, have fun, and just be a kid even while still in treatment.

Campfire Circle has made an immeasurable difference in Kade’s journey and in the lives of countless other children and families battling cancer and/or serious illnesses. The care and compassion they provide are life-changing, and they are truly a pillar of support for families navigating the toughest times of their lives.

This 10k run is our way of honoring Kade’s strength, his journey, and the incredible organization, campfire circle that has been with us every step of the way. Every dollar donated will go to Campfire Circle to help them continue their work — supporting kids like Kade, and families who are facing the unimaginable.

Bring Joy, Friendship, and Connection to Kids Who Need It Most

Every day, thousands of kids across Ontario face cancer or serious illness – and miss out on the moments that make up childhood. Laughter, friendship, and adventure are replaced with hospital visits and isolation.

 For 42 years, Campfire Circle (formerly Camp Ooch & Camp Trillium) has brought healing through happiness to kids with cancer or serious illness and their families. Through our in-hospital, community, and overnight camp programs, we create opportunities for children to build friendships and social skills, develop self-confidence and resiliency, and improve their overall well-being. By providing play-based experiences, we empower kids to take back their childhood, regardless of their medical diagnosis.

But today, more than 40,000 children in Ontario are living with serious illnesses. With your help, we can reach even more of them.

Our goal is to serve 10,000 kids by 2030, and when you donate to the Sporting Life 10K, you join a circle committed to that vision. Your generosity ensures every medically fragile child can experience Campfire Circle’s life-changing programs when they need it most, at no cost to their families.

Together, we can grow our circle of care and help deliver healing through happiness to more kids and families across Ontario.
