Raise money for The Samaritans on Cape Cod and the Islands, Inc.
For nearly 50 years, The Samaritans on Cape Cod & the Islands has been dedicated to suicide prevention and compassionate support. We’re here for anyone who is struggling — offering a caring, nonjudgmental listener who can help rekindle a sense of hope, de-escalate moments of crisis, and create a pathway toward safety and stability.
In 2025, our crisis lines remained the heart of our organization. We answered more than 140,000 calls to the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline and our local lines — each one representing a moment when someone reached out for connection, and someone was there to listen. One of our amazing volunteers who answers these calls explains:
"When I am on the phone with our callers, it is all about the caller: active listening, being present with them, acknowledging their hardships, and empathy. Some of my callers I have spoken with from my first day of training on the phone. I have seen their situations ebb and flow, but they know they always have a safe and welcoming place to call."
As we look ahead, we’re building a future that expands the ways we can support our community by growing our support for suicide loss survivors, strengthening partnerships, and launching programs that support individuals after a mental health crisis.
Thank you for supporting our runners, mission, and programs!
The Samaritans on Cape Cod and the Islands is a nonprofit organization that provides support to people experiencing crises. Our mission is suicide prevention: we are dedicated to helping people contemplating suicide or personally affected by suicide.
In 2023 (the most recent year for which data is available), there were 647 deaths by suicide in Massachusetts - a rate of 9.2/100,000. That same year, Dukes County had the highest rate (24/100,000) and Barnstable County had the second highest suicide rate in Massachusetts (11.7/100,000).
For those who may be struggling, grieving, or wanting to understand how to better support those in their lives, we have programs to help.
Crisis Lines are available 24/7 to anyone looking for support. There is no reason too great or too small to call – whatever the reason, we’re here to listen. The lines are free, anonymous and confidential. Reach a compassionate listener by dialing 988.
Community Education programs provide free materials for tabling events and host educational presentations and trainings to help community members learn about suicide prevention strategies.
Grief Services programs are available for those who have experienced the death of someone close to them by suicide. These resources help to provide loss survivors with various avenues for connection in ways and at times that are right for them.
Your support of Team Samaritans will help us continue to provide these lifesaving programs and services to those who reach out for help.
