My Story…

Thanks for being here and helping our family raise money towards an organization that is very near and dear to our hearts...

Hemophilia is a word used every single day in our home. It’s a lifelong bleeding disorder where the blood doesn’t clot properly due to a deficiency or absence of clotting factor proteins, most commonly factor VIII or IX (in our family’s case, factor VIII). But Hemophilia is so much more than a medical definition. To us, it means strength, perseverance, bravery, owies, pokes, superheroes, warriors, loss, and love...and so much more.

A little bit of our story… Ben and I (Taylor) welcomed our perfect baby boy on August 24, 2021. Hemophilia has always been part of our lives, my father Michael, my Uncle Dave, and my cousin Sara are all Hemophilia warriors, and my cousins, sisters, and I each have our own bleeding stories. We will also be doing genetic testing on our daughter Rory this year. As of now, she's a carrier like her mama. Ben and I knew there was a 50/50 chance our son, Weston, would be born with hemophilia, and to our not-so-surprise, he was. Even though we knew it was a possibility, his diagnosis still came with big emotions. Growing up watching my family navigate this disease has been both a blessing and a curse. I knew what our little boy would inevitably face, and I knew what Ben and I were stepping into as  parents...along with our families and close friends who keep Weston’s every move on their radar (sorry for the stress, fam!)

In 2025, our family experienced an incredible loss: Weston's blood brother and my Uncle Dave. He was the most gentle soul and a true Hemophilia warrior. We miss him every single day and he is a big part of why we finally got involved in NEHA. And my goodness, you don't realize how bad you need a community until they're right there in front of you.

Despite the constant worry that comes with Hemophilia, Weston is beyond blessed to have an incredible medical team at Connecticut Children’s Medical Center. They have supported and guided us through three surgeries, a head injury, a toe bleed, and countless after-hours phone calls and text messages. At home, Weston receives a bi-weekly injection called Hemlibra (his "Superhero Medicine") for routine prophylaxis to prevent or reduce bleeding episodes, along with emergency factor that we use as needed.

The Falmouth Road Race is an opportunity for me to raise money for the New England Hemophilia Association, an organization that supports individuals and families living with bleeding disorders. When we first joined the community in the fall of 2025, we instantly felt at home. The support, education, and love we’ve received is truly indescribable. We are so lucky to be part of the NEHA family, and I am honored to run in support of this incredible community.

In support of NEHA, my Uncle Dave, and our little bleeder Weston, please consider donating to help us reach our goal of $2,000. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts — we love you!
