My Story…
On Thanksgiving eve 2024, I suffered a severe traumatic brain injury after a freak fall in my driveway. I spent one month in a coma, waking up on Christmas day. In Rehab, I had to relearn how to eat, think, speak, and begin to walk again. I have aphasia, so I continue to work on my speech in therapy constantly. I am immensely grateful for my family, they are the reason I am here today.
My daughter, Kate Gaffey, ran the Falmouth Road Race for BIAMA in summer 2025. She ran for me, and to help so many others affected by brain injury. I watched her train hard and it helped me train hard along side her. Seeing all of the runners, it inspired me. I said to myself, "I am going to do that next summer, I am going to run". I am beyond excited to run on behalf of the Brain Injury Association. I am excited to show people that there is a light at the end of the tunnel and there is always a next goal to work towards.
