This year, the Unbreakable Brooks team includes five dedicated runners: Josh Brooks, Elizabeth Brooks, Chris Hogan, Ava O'Donnell, and Matt Thompson-Hogan. Josh and Elizabeth began running for the Gray Nation team in 2024 after Josh was diagnosed with a grade 3 Oligodendroglioma in September 2023. Josh underwent brain surgery following a grand mal seizure that led to the tumor's discovery.

Running has become a vital form of therapy for Josh as he heals from the trauma of a cancer diagnosis at just 32 years old. Despite learning in January 2025 that his tumor had grown and required more intensive treatment, Josh remained active throughout 2025. That year, he completed 33 rounds of radiation and 5 rounds of chemotherapy.

Since completing treatment this past February 2026, Josh is doing well and has returned to work. He remains hopeful for a healthy and fulfilling 2026.

Josh and his team run to support the National Brain Tumor Society (NBTS) and their initiatives aimed at reducing future brain cancer diagnoses in young adults.Oligodendrogliomas often affects people in their 30s and 40s—right in the midst of their peak career and child-rearing years. Cancer is never fair, and every step we take together as a team is for brighter days ahead.
