My Story…
When I was 17, I lost my mom. At that age, you’re still figuring out who you are, still reaching for guidance, still needing someone to steady you. Losing her didn’t just change my life, it left an empty space in all the moments she should have been there for. It’s a kind of loss that shapes you quietly, deeply, and forever.
Now, as a parent myself, that loss hits in new ways. Having a teenage son and watching him grow has made me realize just how much my mom meant to me, and how much she would have loved to see the person and parent I’ve become. Being a mom has shown me the weight of what I lost, but also the strength I gained from it. It’s made me even more passionate about supporting kids who are walking a path I know too well.
That’s why I’m running the 2026 Falmouth Road Race for Empower.
Empower is a nonprofit dedicated to supporting children and young adults up to age 24 who have experienced the loss of a parent. Their mission is powerful: to empower, support, and connect grieving young people so they never have to feel alone.
Why This Race Matters
I’m running for the 17‑year‑old version of me who needed a community like this. I’m running for the kids who are trying to make sense of a world that suddenly feels unfamiliar. I’m running for the young adults who are carrying a weight far too heavy for their age. And I’m running for my son, to show him what resilience looks like, and to honor the grandmother he never got to meet.

Join me in supporting Empower by helping me raise money as I take on the 2026 Falmouth Road Race!
Empower is a nonprofit with a very specific mission — to empower, support, and connect children and young adults (up through age 24) who have experienced the loss of a parent. Empower provides events that remind children they are not alone in their grief, and a unique one-on-one mentor program with positive role models from the community who help teach, “loss is survivable.”
Cara was nine years old when her mother Kit died of breast cancer and formed Empower as a grassroots movement out of the gratitude she had for all the layers of support her family received growing up. Empower operates with a lean staff and thousands of volunteers from across the globe and all programs remain at no charge to the family.
