I am very excited to join the New England Donor Services team at the 2026 Falmouth Road Race and would appreciate any support you can provide to help me reach my goal.
Although I have always thought that I knew what it meant to be an organ donor, I didn’t really understand the options and the process until recently.  It is for this reason, that I feel like advocating for this (especially living organ donation) is not just important, but necessary - especially after seeing that a member of our own community is in need.
The biggest misconception is that you cannot help out your loved one unless you are a perfect match.  While being a perfect match and doing a direct donation is great, there is also something called the voucher program.
On March 31st I was able to donate my left kidney to a recipient in California, and my loved one received a voucher. That voucher moved him up the list, and he was matched two weeks later, and received his kidney two weeks after that.  My little kidney not only helped a stranger across the country, but my loved one as well.  
The list is long for those who are awaiting a transplant. I can’t say enough about how smooth this process went for me. I truly hope that if more people become aware of the different options for donation, maybe we can shorten the list and help out as many people as possible. 💙💚
