My Story…
This year I am so grateful to once again be running the Falmouth Road Race in support of Live4Evan. This will be my 9th year joining this team to participate in the run, but most importantly to raise funds for this amazing organization. Our goal this year is to raise $110,000 which will allow us to open the 8th Live4Evan apartment adjacent to Boston Children’s Hospital as soon as one becomes available in 2026. Since 2020 I have been running this race in honor and memory of Heart Warrior Hudson Buckles….and I continue to humbly do so again this year. Below is a beautiful message from Hudson’s parents, MacKenzie and Kyle, which I would like to share that embodies the importance of the mission of Live4Evan.
“ We are forever grateful for The Girardi family and the team at Live4Evan. Their organization provided us with a home away from home during Hudson’s life and stay at BCH. When reflecting on our time in Boston, nothing but gratitude comes to mind for the beautiful apartment we were able to stay in thanks to L4E. It was a refuge and safe haven for us to rest & recharge before another long day at Hudson’s bedside. He only spent a few weeks out of the hospital in his 11 months of life, and a few of those weeks were within the walls of our L4E apartment. His first holiday outside of the hospital was a Thanksgiving meal in our L4E apartment and we will forever cherish those memories. Even though Hudson is no longer with us on this side of heaven, we will forever fight in his memory. His younger siblings already know about him and will grow up learning about his strength & resilience. Thanks to all of you, we will forever remember a truly remarkable little boy in many special ways, with this race being one of them. Our efforts to raise awareness for CHD and Live4Evan reach farther than Boston, and we will continue to host our Hudson’s Crew 5k and other events in his memory. If you feel so led, please consider supporting Betsy as she runs for Hudson. This organization and the L4E family that we were blessed with mean so very much to us. Thank you for coming alongside us in our grief and joy as we remember our precious heart warrior.”

ABOUT US: The Live4Evan Organization was formed out of a desire to recognize and support the critical relationship between a child and their loved ones. We believe that there is no greater gift to be given than a parent’s love to a child. We understand the importance of staying by a child’s side without having to worry about the additional burdens that life can place on us. And so, our organization works tirelessly to provide financial and emotional support to families by providing them with temporary housing while their child receives congenital cardiac treatment.
The Falmouth Road Race has been a crucial fundraiser for Live4Evan for the past 8 years. Over this time, the Live4Evan team members have collectively raised over $720,000. Thanks in large part to these efforts, Live4Evan is currently providing SEVEN patient-family apartments for families traveling to Boston for pediatric cardiac care. These apartments are next to Boston Children's Hospital and offer calm and comfort in the midst of such a difficult time. The close proximity to the hospital ensures that caretakers can be at their loved ones bedside in a moment's notice. The need for patient-family housing is critical and Live4Evan is committed to increasing our apartment portfolio in order to help additional families.
OUR STORY: Live4Evan was founded in memory of Evan Girardi, who passed away his senior year of college from a heart arrhythmia. Evan was born with a congenital heart defect (CHD) known as Corrected L-Transposition of the Great Arteries. Despite his heart condition, Evan lived his life to the fullest. Rather than allow Evan’s passing to put an end to the life and legacy that Evan had built, his friends and family formed Live4Evan to serve as a testament to the power of relationships and the importance of having loved ones by your side.
