My Story…
This August, I'll be trading my scrubs for running shorts as I take on the 7-mile Falmouth Road Race with Massachusetts General Hospital's Caring for a Cure team!
Cancer affects us all. My mom's diagnosis of pancreatic cancer inspired me to specialize in oncology, and ever since, I've had the privilege of caring for patients and their families during some of life's most challenging moments. Every patient's story is unique, but what has stayed with me is the incredible resilience, courage, and hope they carry. Cancer doesn't discriminate, and no one should have to face it alone.
Working on Lunder 9 inpatient oncology at MGH and now as an infusion nurse in Danvers, I've seen the direct impact Caring for a Cure has on patients and families. Their support extends far beyond medical care. I've seen transportation assistance help patients get to life-saving treatments, gift cards ease the burden of everyday expenses, holiday gifts bring joy to children during an otherwise difficult season, and support for special moments, like weddings! Caring For a Cure allow families to celebrate milestones and lifes joy despite a cancer diagnosis. These acts of kindness remind us that caring for someone means supporting their life, not just treating their disease.
Running this race is my way of giving back to a community that has given so much—to my own family, to my patients, and to countless others whose lives have been touched by cancer. Every mile I run is for them.
As someone new to running, I'm sure there will be a few sore muscles along the way, but that's a small challenge compared to what so many of my patients face every day. Every step I take is in honor of their strength and helps support patients and families when they need it most.
If you'd like to cheer me on from afar, I'd be so grateful if you'd consider making a donation. Every contribution, no matter the size, helps Caring for a Cure continue making a meaningful difference in the lives of patients receiving cancer care at Mass General.
Thank you for helping me turn sweaty miles into something meaningful. ❤️
