My Story…
In April, I'm completing my first 5K in denim for a reason. Denim began as a statement to demand change after a court once ruled that a woman’s tight jeans implied consent. That ruling was later overturned, but the message behind it is still something survivors fight every day: what we wear is never consent.
I wear denim because I was sexually assaulted in college.
Instead of support, I was labeled a slut.
Instead of accountability, my abuser bragged about his “conquest.”
Instead of safety, I felt shame.
I'm also running in denim for the girl I was just after my assault, who was in so much pain but couldn't tell anyone. I was scared to report. I was scared I wouldn’t be believed.
I am running denim to support The Summer Willis Foundation and our other Denim Runs in April. Together, we can reframe the narrative around sexual violence, empower survivors to reclaim their stories, and create lasting systemic change that prevents future harm.
