Meet Jayden
MEET OUR PEROGY RUN AMBASSADOR!
Born approximately seven weeks premature, Jayden spent the first part of his life in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) at St. Boniface Hospital. After seven long weeks, Jayden was finally discharged home to his loving parents.
Around his first birthday, an MRI at the Children’s Hospital in Winnipeg revealed that Jayden had Spastic Diplegia Cerebral Palsy, a condition that causes muscle tightness and makes movement difficult.
During Jayden’s time in the NICU, his parents befriended one of the nurses who, upon hearing of his diagnosis, recommended the Movement Centre of Manitoba — describing it as “a place that makes what seems impossible, possible.”
At two and a half years old, Jayden started the Movement Centre’s Conductive Education program. In the beginning, he relied on a walker to move around and struggled with muscle tightness. But with the help of dedicated staff, Jayden began learning how to step, balance, and coordinate his movements.
Three days before his fourth birthday, Jayden underwent a Selective Dorsal Rhizotomy surgery at Montreal Children’s Hospital. Following surgery, Jayden needed to re-learn how to use his muscles. It was a challenging process, but with continued therapy at the Movement Centre, his strength and confidence grew day by day.
Jayden’s progress has been nothing short of inspiring. First, he mastered walking with a walker. Then he advanced to using canes. Soon, he was standing independently — first for seconds, then for minutes.
Now, at six years old, Jayden can take hundreds of independent steps. Every week, he proudly sets out to “beat his record,” determined to reach his ultimate goal: walking all on his own.
For Jayden and his family, the Movement Centre has been life-changing. It’s more than a place for therapy — it’s a community that feels like family. The staff create an environment filled with encouragement, laughter, and hope.
Jayden’s mom shares, “We can’t imagine where Jayden would be without The Movement Centre. It has truly changed his life.”
