Our story…

This team is here for the gynecological cancer outsiders.

In 2019, at 26 years old, I was diagnosed with Stage 1C Ovarian Cancer after the discovery of a 25 lb tumor on my left ovary.

As a transman. When diagnosed, I was fully out and living as a man in my day to day life.

I spent 6 months of treatment feeling like an outsider, having to constantly explain myself, having people constantly stare at me while I get called back for check ins. Having to tell literal DOCTORS what HRT does to my body. Having to explain so many things that DOCTORS with a MEDICAL DEGREE, should honestly already know. We don't just fight cancer, we fight a medical system and health insurance that doesn't fully see us or our stories. Doctors having to use dead names and assigned gender at birth during treatments, causing stress and trauma during treatment. Our stories may be different, but our stories MATTER!

Gynecological cancer doesn't just effect cis women. There may not be many of us, but our Trans / non binary community is still here and at risk. No more "lady cancer". Its just CANCER, and it sucks, no matter who you are, your background, your health history, whatever. It doesn't discriminate.  But unfortunately, our greater community does.

I show every year for this race to give visibility to those that may not identify with these parts of their body, but still have to go through the medical trauma and turmoil it brings. I want trans and non binary people to feel SEEN and RESPECTED at events like this. It may be "women" centered. But WE MATTER. WE FIGHT. AND WE CARE>

Honestly my ultimate goal with donations is to created a LGBTQIA+ friendly space in the survivors village. We will have a tent with flags, love, and support ready to cheer on those that may not fit the normal bill of "gynecological cancer" survivor or supporter. Music playing. Good vibes ready. And just visibility for a community that needs it now more then ever.
