Q: When and where is the event?
A: The 10th Annual Foothills Hike for Hospice Hustle takes place on Sunday, May 3rd along the scenic Sheep River pathways in the Town of Okotoks. The event zone is at Ethel Tucker Park, directly beside the Okotoks library.
Q: Does every participant receive a Hike for Hospice Hustle event t-shirt?
A: In past years, all participants aged 10 and up automatically received a free event t-shirt. This year, to reduce waste, participants can choose whether or not they want a complimentary t-shirt during the registration process. If you would like one, simply select “yes” and choose your size. If not, you’re welcome to wear whatever you’re comfortable in- just opt out of the t-shirt at registration.
Participants 9 years old and under are free to register. If a child under 9 would like a t-shirt, you can add one during registration for $10.
Q: Do you offer refunds on cancellations of registrations?
A: We do not offer refunds on cancellations of your Hike for Hospice Hustle registrations.
Q: Can my child participate in the 5k or 10k run?
A: Participation in the 5K or 10K is a decision we leave up to parents or guardians, as you know your child’s abilities best. For safety reasons, we ask that all children be accompanied by a parent or guardian for the duration of the race.
Q: Is there parking on-site?
A: The event zone is located at Ethel Tucker Park on Riverside Drive in Okotoks, located at the Okotoks Art & Learning Campus.
We encourage participants to walk or bike to the event whenever possible to this central location!
For those driving, there are several parking options available:
- there is a parking lot located to the west of the Okotoks Art & Learning Centre
- there is a parking lot on the north side of South Railway Street
- additional parking is available along Daggett Street, just a short walk from the event zone
Q: How and where do I pickup my event package?
A: We highly recommend picking up your run or walk event package in advance to avoid long wait times on event day. If you’ve picked up your event package in advance, there’s no need to check in at the event- just arrive wearing your race t-shirt with bib attached, and enjoy the day!
Event Package Pickup is Friday, May 1st, 10 AM – 6 PM at Okotoks Sobeys. Grab yours, and offer to pick up for friends or teammates too! Please note: when you pick up your race package in advance, you DO NOT need to check in on event day! Can’t make it in advance? Event packages will still be available at the event zone on Sunday, May 3rd from 9:30–10:15 AM, but expect lineups!
Q: Are there washrooms available on site?
A: Yes! Port-o-potties will be available at the start/finish area for participants. There are no port-o-potties on the walk or run routes, so we recommend going before the walk and runs start.
Q: Do I have to complete the entire 2K or 5K walk?
A: Not at all! You are welcome to walk as far as you like. You can turn around anytime and still make a meaningful impact.
Q: Can I walk with my stroller or wheelchair?
A: Absolutely! The 2K and 5K walks are fully accessible, making them perfect for strollers, wheelchairs, and scooters.
Q: Can I bring my dog?
A: Yes! Leashed dogs are welcome to join us on the walk routes. For everyone’s safety and comfort, we recommend that dogs participate in the walk rather than the run. Please be mindful of other participants and remember to clean up after your pet.
Q: Are the 5K and 10K runs timed?
A: Yes! Both the 5K and 10K Hustle runs are officially timed and each runner will get a timed chipped bib. Results will be posted on site, as well as online following the races.
Q: Can I form a team or participate with friends/family?
A: Definitely! Make a team, bring your family, or enjoy a walk with your pup. Teams and individuals can also compete for prizes like Best Dressed Team and Top Individual and Top Team Fundraisers.
Q: Do I need to register in advance?
A: Yes! Early registration helps us plan for participants and event amenities. Walk-up registrations are welcome on event day, but we recommend registering ahead of time to avoid lines.
Q: How does my participation help?
A: Every step, whether you walk or run, helps raise vital funds for the Foothills Country Hospice, supporting compassionate care for terminally ill adults and their families.
Q: What should I bring on race day?
A: Reusable water bottle filled with water, your race day t-shirt with bibs attached (if picked up in advance), weather-appropriate gear (hats, sunscreen, rain jacket, umbrella etc.), comfortable walking/running shoes, big smiles and team spirit!
Q: Does this event happen rain or shine?
A: Yes! The event goes ahead in most weather conditions, so be sure to dress appropriately and prepare for the elements. In the case of extreme weather warnings, we may need to cancel for the safety of participants and volunteers. Please note that all registrations are non-refundable.
