On March 1, Charlie Brown will start pedaling from San Diego to St. Augustine to raise money for the Sua Sponte Foundation, which supports the Rangers and family members of the First Ranger Battalion. His support crew consists of fellow First Ranger Battalion alumnus, Scotty Rezendes.
Charlie Brown
Charlie served in Second Platoon, A Company, 1st Ranger Battalion from February 1978 until August 1980. Though his time there was short, it was significant, and the lessons he learned there stayed with him throughout his thirty-six year Army career, and beyond. The most important of these is that you can keep on going long after your body, the odds, and common sense say you should have stopped.
Scotty Rezendes
Scotty served in B/1/75 1977-1978, followed by an airborne tour in Italy and 26 years in Special Forces assignments. He says he was a mediocre Ranger surrounded by giants of the Regiment, most of them veterans of special operations units during our conflict in Viet Nam (and beyond). One of the first and most lasting lessons from those early years was, if you do something really hard first thing, the rest of the day is daisies.
