Volunteers are essential to the success of this race. Volunteer opportunities for LHR are limited to current UT students only. When registering to volunteer, you will need to choose a specific position and shift time(s). The position descriptions are located below.
We are so excited to be reunited on the Forty Acres for every Longhorn's favorite 5K and 10K race.

Pre-Race Volunteer Opportunities
Packet Pick-Up Monday-Friday of Race Week (April 13-17)
Help our runners get prepared for race day! You’ll be handing out a race bib and t-shirt to each runner and help make sure they leave with all of our handouts for race day. You’ll need a smile on your face and a great attitude. Leave the runners feeling excited to come back on April 18th to cross the finish line!
Night Before Set-Up Friday, April 17th
Help us move equipment from Gregory Gym to the Main Mall the night before the event. Use your strength to help set up tents and carry post-race supplies to the Main Mall. Wear gym clothes and comfortable shoes, and expect some heavy lifting.
Race Day (Saturday, April 18th)
Finish Line Support
Cheer on your fellow Longhorns as they cross the finish line and assist with pedestrian traffic flow to get runners moving swiftly up to banana alley.
Post-Race Celebration Support
Monitor traffic flow at the Main Mall and assist by offering to take people’s photos with their phones as they celebrate with their friends. Monitor and empty trash cans during post-race activities. Tear down sponsor tents and load out sponsor materials after the conclusion of the event. Some heavy lifting may be required.
Banana Alley Set-Up
Assist with the unloading of all in-kind donations for banana alley including bananas, gatorade and more! Some heavy lifting may be required.
Banana Alley Support
Reward the finishers after they cross the line. Assist by passing out food and drinks to the runners after they finish the race. Direct the runners towards the Main Mall for the post-race celebration and be prepared to answer the runners’ questions. Monitor and empty trash cans as needed. Vocal, energetic individuals with strong communication skills are preferred.
Pre-Race Support
This will include supporting volunteer check-in, race morning packet pick-up and more.
You’re the first stop for our volunteers on race day morning and responsible for getting them where they need to go. You will identify each volunteer as they arrive, check them in, and distribute volunteer t-shirts. Direct them to where they need to go based on what they’ve signed up for. After all the volunteers have checked in for the day, you’re responsible for collapsing the volunteer tents and moving them back into storage.
Welcome our runners as they come to pick up their race day materials that morning. You are positive and energetic while you greet and assign a race bib to each runner, hand out t-shirts, and direct runners to the start line.
Course Support (i.e. Course Marshal)
Outgoing and proactive course guides wanted! Decipher the course map and direct runners through turns and intersections along the course. Communicate the 5K/10K race course split to runners so they keep on the appropriate path. Assist with keeping local traffic off of the race course at all times. Must be vocal, assertive, and enthusiastic. This position requires a short, additional training which you will receive more information about in early April.
Water Stations
Outgoing and enthusiastic volunteers are wanted! Water station volunteers will be tasked with remaining at a water station along the course and handing water to runners who may need it. Additionally, volunteers should be cheering and supporting the runners along the course at their assigned stations. These will be heavy traffic areas along the course, so volunteers are expected to be vocal and supportive throughout their time at the water station.
