The Kid’s 1KM Fun Run gives children the chance to experience the excitement of the start line, the energy of the crowd and the pride of crossing the finish line inside the La Trobe Sports Park precinct. With age-based waves and clear companion requirements, the event is designed to be safe, fun and accessible for young runners.

Kid’s Event
1KM Run
Children will take on a fun 1KM course that gives them their own race day moment as part of the Run La Trobe experience. It is a great way to get active, build confidence and enjoy the atmosphere of the event.
Start Format
3 Waves
The Kid’s 1KM Fun Run will be split into three age-based waves: 10–12 years, 7–9 years, and 6 years and under. Waves will start every 2 minutes to help create a safe and smooth race experience.

Age-based waves every 2 minutes.
To support a safe and fun start experience, children will be grouped into waves based on their age on Race Day.
Wave A
10–12 years
Children participating in Wave A do not require a companion.
Wave B
7–9 years
Children participating in Wave B can bring a companion if they wish, but it is not mandatory.
Wave C
6 years & under
Children participating in Wave C must participate with a companion.

Event location
The Kid’s 1KM Fun Run starts and finishes at La Trobe Sports Park Stadium, located within the La Trobe University Bundoora Sports Park precinct.
Start time
The Kid’s 1KM Fun Run is scheduled to start from 10:30am, with waves starting every 2 minutes.
Cut-off time
The cut-off time for the Kid’s 1KM Fun Run is 30 minutes.
Maximum age
Children must be 13 years old or under on Race Day to take part in the Kid’s 1KM Fun Run.
Companion requirements
Wave A participants aged 10–12 do not require a companion. Wave B participants aged 7–9 may bring a companion if they wish. Wave C participants aged 6 and under must participate with a companion.
