This is a cause close to my heart. For over ten years I have dealt with what I now know to be symptoms of endometriosis and adenomyosis. For a long time it was manageable enough with lifestyle changes and hormonal medication, but as the years went on it became harder to ignore. The pain was constant and exhausting. There were days I couldn't get off the couch, events I missed, and many moments where I felt completely let down by my body. This time last year the pain was so intense I couldn’t even walk around our block.

Last June I had surgery that truly changed my life, a hysterectomy and endo excision with an incredible specialist in Calgary. Getting to that point was quite a journey in itself, advocating for myself, navigating our broken healthcare system, and waiting (and waiting) for access to the right care. Man, it was so worth it though.

It has been a year of healing and slowly rebuilding my strength. Being able to participate in this run means more than I can put into words. My endo used to control how I was able to move in my own body, dictating what I was and was not capable of every day. Getting stronger and moving my body freely again is a privilege I will never take for granted.

Endometriosis affects 1 in 10 people with a uterus. On average, it takes 7–10 years to get a diagnosis. It is chronically underfunded and too often dealt with in silence. If you'd like to support my run and this cause, I'd be so grateful 💛
