My Story…

Did you know that endometriosis is a chronic inflammatory disease affecting millions of girls, women, and unmeasured numbers of gender-diverse individuals, yet it remains significantly under-researched and misunderstood? (Endometriosis Network, n.d).

Some studies and advocacy groups have even pointed out that it receives less research funding than conditions like male-pattern baldness. Are you f*cking kidding me?

Endometriosis… we’ve all heard the word. Many people think it only affects the uterus and menstrual periods, but it’s actually far far more complex. Endometriosis occurs when tissue similar to the lining of the uterus grows outside of it, causing inflammation, pain, and affects and can impair the functioning of various organs throughout the body.

This is a very new journey for me. I was formally diagnosed with stage 4 endometriosis on March 26, 2026, during laparoscopic surgery. Like many others, I only discovered I had endometriosis after experiencing significant symptoms including severe pain, fertility challenges, and abnormal findings on imaging.

In my case, multiple organs are impacted, including my left fallopian tube, left ovary, uterus, bowel, and pelvic wall.  My gynaecologist surgeon identified my pelvic wall, uterus, and bowel are stuck to each other due to severe adhesions. Endometrioma cysts were drained, and my fallopian tube was unblocked.

I anticipate that there will be a need for an excision surgery in my future due to the complexity of this disease, recurrence, and because there is no cure.

Because advocacy could be my middle name (iykyk) I’m committed to raising awareness, joining the ‘End to Endo’ run and fundraising for The Endometriosis Network of Canada.

If you’ve made it this far through my vulnerable jumble of words, I’m grateful to have raised awareness. If you feel motivated to help create change, please consider donating to support my participation in the run, the funds go directly toward the Endometriosis Network of Canada. 🫶🏼
