Haiti Committee members of All Saints in Cedar Rapids, St John's in Mt Vernon and St. Mary's in Vinton are sponsoring a 5K Run/Walk with 100% of proceeds to benefit over 4000 students in Haiti.
Spend a Saturday morning in the beautiful small town of Lisbon, Iowa, running a flat, chip-timed 5K course.
While other races might give you a ribbon or medal you don't know what to do with, we will hand every finisher a piece of freshly-baked church-lady apple pie.
Plus, the top three female and male finishers in each age group receive their choice of a home-baked pie to take home.
The event is chip-timed with bib-chips and individual results will be available for printouts following the race.
The out-and-back course begins at the Lisbon city park on South Jackson Street where there's plenty of room for runners to warm up and stretch before they run and playground equipment for their children to enjoy.
A water station is located just before the halfway turnaround point.
All proceeds support the education of impoverished children in rural Haiti.

Weather Policy
What happens if there is inclement weather?
The Run For Pie 5K and Kids 1 Mile Fun Run will be held rain or shine. In the event of nearby lightning, the race director may postpone the start of the races or cancel them altogether to ensure the safety of competitors, participants, spectators and volunteers. Because funds raised for the event are used to support the education of impoverished children in rural Haiti, no refunds will be issued in the event the race is canceled or postponed.
About Our Cause
On January 26th, 2000 All Saints parish in Cedar Rapids Iowa was twinned with the parish of Notre Dame de Lourdes in Belle Fontaine Haiti. We are told there are around 50,000 people in our sister parish. Geographically it is about the size of the Cedar Rapids Iowa city area. With lots of mountain ranges!
In Notre Dame de Lourdes there are 24 chapels. Each has its own school, teachers and students. There are 105 teachers and about 4500 students. Each teacher should earn a salary of about $360 a school year, if funds are available. The student’s families pay what they can, we work to raise funds to cover the rest.
We send money three times a year to support the education system. In 2008 we started sending food, clothes, school supplies and a few other items down to our sister parish using a shipping program call the Sea-Crate. Recently, we sent our 12th Sea-Crate which included 52,800 “Take Away Hunger” meals.
