8.5 Mile Course Details
The TreeTops 8.5 Mile Trail Race at Dupont State Forest is a trail runner's dream race. This challenging endurance run will take you through some of the most beautiful trails that this forest has to offer. The route includes single and double track trails, wide forest roads, dirt, gravel, rock and rooted surfaces, as well as a stinker hill that will challenge even the most experienced trail runners.
To give you a chance to refuel, there are two water stations along the way - one at mile 3.8 & 8.2 and the other one at mile 6.8. The course is in the shape of a figure 8, taking you through some of Dupont's best trails such as Hickory Mountain, Jim Branch, Ridgeline and Thomas Cemetery.

We want to ensure that you have a great experience on the trail. We will be assigning start times based on your average trail running pace. Please choose the wave during registration that best reflects your expected average pace for the full course to help ensure a smooth and safe experience for all participants.
Wave 1 – Front / Competitive Pace
For runners planning to average under ~9:30 min/mile.
This wave is for those racing for time and position.
Wave 2 – Steady Runners
For runners averaging approximately 9:30–11:00 min/mile.
A comfortable, consistent running pace.
Wave 3 – Run/Walkers
For participants averaging approximately 11:00–13:30 min/mile.
Includes run/walk intervals and steady effort pacing.
Wave 4 – Run/Walk (Back of Pack)
For participants averaging approximately 13:30–15:00 min/mile.
Designed for those planning a more relaxed pace while continuing forward progress on the course.
COURSE CUTOFF:
The course cutoff is 11:15am for all participants, regardless of wave start time. Due to the nature of the trail terrain, participants should plan to maintain an average pace of approximately 15 minutes per mile to comfortably finish within the cutoff.
Course support, aid stations, and traffic control will end at 11:15am, and participants may be directed off the course at that time.
