My Story…
My Husband, Ryan was diagnosed with Squamous Cell Carcinoma of the tongue in October of 2024. When he became critically ill, we never imagined that the hospital he was brought to in an emergency would ultimately become the place where we would say goodbye to him. Griffin hospital was not where he received his primary cancer treatment, nor was it where we had spent his months of appointments and treatments. But when he became too sick to remain at home, he was rushed there. The doctors, nurses, and providers cared for my husband as a person, not simply as a patient. While he was in the ICU, providers sent him gifts and notes filled with hope. When he was moved to hospice, members of his care team came down to see him and sat with us. They understood that we weren’t simply losing a patient—we were losing a person who meant the world to us. I am doing this fundraiser as a way of giving back to the hospital and the people who cared for him so beautifully during his final days.
