5km For Charley Mae

5KM for Charley Mae is an inaugural community run and walk in support of McMaster Children's Hospital (MacKids). Net proceeds from the event will help support the hospital’s life-changing care for children and families.

This run was created to honour Charley Mae Stewart's spirit, celebrate the joy she brought to the world, and raise funds for the exceptional care provided to our community by MacKids.

Wheelchairs and strollers only; For safety reasons no bikes or scooters.

Meet Charley Mae Stewart

Charley was a bright light whose laughter, curiosity, and kindness filled every room she entered. Born and raised in Waterdown, she attended Waterdown Children’s Centre, Camp Waterdown and Allan A. Greenleaf School. She loved music, swimming, school and any adventure that included her family.
Living with Aicardi Syndrome, Charley faced every challenge with remarkable courage and joy. She had a way of bringing people together and reminding everyone around her to appreciate the small, beautiful moments in life.
One of Charley’s favourite pastimes was being pushed by her dad in her running wheelchair. Race days were pure joy, the wind in her hair, laughter along the course and the thrill of sharing the moment together. They completed several races side by side, creating memories her family will cherish forever.
When Charley passed away at just eight years old, those moments on the race course or running through the Waterdown streets became the inspiration for something bigger.
5KM for Charley Mae was created to honour her spirit, celebrate the joy she brought to the world, and support children and families in need.
This run brings family, friends, and the community together to remember Charley, celebrate her spirit, and support children and families who need it most.
