Expressions Counselling is honoured to be the Presenting Sponsor of the 2026 Butterfly Run Vancouver, supporting individuals and families impacted by infertility, pregnancy loss, stillbirth, and infant loss.

For our Founder and Clinical Director, Dr. Yasaman Madanikia, this cause is deeply personal.

Yasaman spent years navigating infertility and fertility treatment, including an initial diagnosis of unexplained infertility that later became diminished ovarian reserve. Her journey included unsuccessful treatments, medications, procedures, embryo transfers, couples counselling, and the emotional uncertainty that comes with not knowing whether treatment will work.

One of the hardest parts was the loneliness. It wasn’t until Yasaman connected with other women experiencing infertility that she realized how powerful it could be to be surrounded by people who simply understood—without needing an explanation.

After a long fertility journey, Yasaman welcomed her son, Pars. But becoming a mother did not erase the experience of infertility or the grief associated with losing the ability to simply choose when or whether to grow your family. Today, she continues her own fertility journey.

Two years ago, Yasaman participated in the Butterfly Run while still in the midst of infertility. Crossing the finish line brought her to tears. Returning this year with Pars, and with Expressions Counselling as the Presenting Sponsor, feels like a full circle.

This is also why Expressions Counselling is committed to creating spaces where people navigating infertility and loss feel less alone, including our monthly infertility support group in Vancouver.

Our team is fundraising for the Butterfly Run because no one should have to carry infertility or loss in silence. Every donation helps strengthen a community where people can speak about, honour, and support these experiences.
