My Story…

I was in middle school when the attacks of September 11, 2001 changed our nation forever. Although I was young, I understood that something unimaginable had happened and that our firefighters, first responders, and fellow Americans needed our support.

In the days following that tragedy, I stood outside our local Daniel’s Market with fellow classmates in Bonsall, California, collecting donations for those affected. The photos I am sharing from that time capture the beginning of something that would ultimately shape my heart and my career. Being alive during 9/11 and witnessing the way our country came together left an impact on me that has never faded. In the days that followed, our differences no longer mattered. We stood together, united not by politics, backgrounds, or beliefs, but simply as Americans.

"United We Stand"

Over the years, I have participated in the San Diego 9/11 Memorial Stair Climb in nearly every capacity—as a volunteer, fundraiser, sponsor, and climber. Each role has carried special meaning, but climbing alongside others in remembrance of the 343 firefighters who made the ultimate sacrifice is an experience everyone should have.

Our Screaming Eagles team represents SC Products Group, a first-responder and family-owned company built around supporting firefighter health, safety, and readiness. Through the company, I have remained closely connected to the fire service and committed to protecting the men and women who protect our communities.

That commitment also became my career. I have worked in EMS for four years, with experience in fire protection/safety, as an EMT and paramedic with AMR, and now have the honor to work in my hometown as a paramedic with North County Fire Protection District.

During paramedic school, the importance of preserving the memory of September 11 became even more personal. I realized that nearly half of my classmates had not yet been born or were too young to remember when the attacks occurred. It was a powerful reminder that “Never Forget” cannot simply be a phrase. It is our responsibility to continue telling the stories, honoring the lives lost, supporting the families left behind, and teaching future generations about the courage, sacrifice, and unity that defined that day.

This year, I am climbing with the Screaming Eagles in honor of the 343 firefighters who made the ultimate sacrifice on September 11. We are raising money for FirefighterAid, a nonprofit organization managed by the San Diego Fire Relief Association and funded entirely through community support. FirefighterAid provides charitable assistance to San Diego County firefighters and their families during times of crisis while promoting awareness of firefighter health and safety issues. Donations help support programs focused on cancer awareness and prevention, aging firefighters, fire families, relief efforts, cadet scholarships, and honoring those who have answered their last alarm.

It is a true honor to raise funds for an organization that cares for firefighters. Not only while they are serving, but also when illness, injury, crisis, or loss affects them and their families. This mission is deeply connected to my personal history, my work with SC Products Group, and the career in EMS that I am so proud to have chosen.

In a full-circle moment, I am hoping to return to the same place where my fundraising journey began after September 11, to Daniel’s Market, now Major Market in Bonsall, to collect donations in person once again. I will also be selling Screaming Eagles shirts to support the cause. Please inquire about how to receive one!

Please consider supporting our team, joining us in the climb, fundraising, or sharing to support this meaningful cause. Every donation helps us honor the past, care for today’s firefighters and their families, and ensure that the promise to never forget continues for generations to come.

Thank You,

Jordan Evans
