SD Miramar College Fire Academy — 9/11 Memorial Stair Climb Team

The San Diego Miramar College Fire Academy is honored to participate in the San Diego 9/11 Memorial Stair Climb on Saturday, September 5, 2026, at the San Diego Hilton Bayfront.

As future firefighters, academy cadets, instructors, staff, alumni, and supporters, we climb to honor the courage, sacrifice, and legacy of the 343 FDNY firefighters, 23 NYPD officers, and 37 Port Authority Police officers who gave their lives on September 11, 2001. Each step is a reminder of their commitment to service, their bravery in the face of unimaginable conditions, and the responsibility we carry to never forget.

This event is also an opportunity for our Fire Academy team to reflect on the values at the heart of the fire service: honor, duty, sacrifice, teamwork, resilience, and service to others. For our cadets, this climb is more than a physical challenge, it is a meaningful connection to the history, traditions, and expectations of the profession they are preparing to enter.

This year, our team has set a fundraising goal of $34,300 in direct remembrance of the 343 FDNY firefighters who made the ultimate sacrifice on 9/11.

Funds raised through our team will benefit FirefighterAid, a 501(c)(3) organization that provides charitable assistance to firefighters and their families during times of crisis, while also promoting awareness of firefighter health, safety, and the impact these issues have on families and communities.

We are proud to climb in remembrance, in service, and in support of firefighters and their families.
