Thank you for coming to the Team page for the Red Bears. We would love to have you join the team, and help celebrate the 25th anniversary of the rare Charitable Research Reserve. I am Carmen Martinez-Evans and this is my 13th year as a member of the Red Bears. I look forward to having the biggest team possible this year. The trail party on Sunday, September 20th will be a lot of fun, and we bears can get together for the celebratory BBQ at the end of the walk. If you cannot join us in person, please do join us in our fundraising, and make a donation. Every donation makes a big impact.

Here is a message from one of the founding members of the Red Bears team, Joy Roberts:

There are many milestones to celebrate in rare’s first 25 years. Some of them were big challenges overcome and others, thankfully, were opportunities realised. Common to them all was the key role played by volunteers and community members. And each year (for 17 years), rain or shine, the community has come together at the Walk to celebrate the marvel that is rare — protected lands, open to all, in the middle of a large urban area. 
Since the inaugural Walk, the Red Bears team has been pleased to join other teams to raise funds to get Every Child Outdoors and to help rare grow from a single-site land trust into a national model of place-based conservation with sites across the Grand River watershed. Those early youngsters in their Red Bears hats and t-shirts are now leaders in their own right. Those of us who came first look on this new generation with a growing sense of hope as we see them recruit yet others to walk the trails and tell their friends about rare. 
The Trail Party is a time to remember that, in spite of an uncertain and challenging world, the future can still be full of promise, one that invites us to connect — with each other and with the land. See you — and the young ones in your life —  on the trails!
