How It Works
- Heats will consist of 10-12 runners.
- Heats will be assigned based on gender upon check-in on race day.
- Heats will be communicated to participants at check-in on race day.
- All heats will be stopwatch timed.
- Final standings will be determined based on the fastest overall times across all heats, with awards presented to the top three male and female finishers overall.
- Please note: if we have enough non-binary participants signed up, we will have a dedicated non-binary heat and associated prizing available!
- Run Crew group prizes will also be up for grabs (biggest crew, best team spirit etc).
Official Rules
1. The Beer
- Each participant must drink four cans of One For The Road Non-Alcoholic beer (355 ml or 12 oz), one before each lap.
- No substitutes allowed (ie water, soda, alcoholic beverages etc).
2. The Race
- The race consists of four laps around a 400-meter track (1609 meters or one mile in total).
- Each lap is preceded by the consumption of one beer.
- The race starts with the consumption of the first beer in the designated chug zone.
3. The Chug Zone
- All beer consumption must take place within the chug zone, a designated area near the start/finish line.
- Participants cannot leave the chug zone until the beer is fully consumed.
4. Beer Consumption
- Beer must be consumed fully before starting each lap. Any spillage (excessive foam or beer) during consumption will require the participant to consume a penalty beer.
- Beer must be consumed directly from the top of a pre-opened open can.
- Beer cans must not be tampered with in any manner. (e.g. no shotgunning, puncturing the can, squeezing the can, etc.)
- Participants must tip their beer can/cup upside down over their heads after chugging to show that the beer has been fully consumed.
5. Penalties
- A penalty lap of 400 meters is required if a participant is caught vomiting before the race is finished. The penalty lap is completed after the fourth lap.
- Vomiting within the chug zone during the race will also result in a penalty lap.
6. Fair Play
- All participants must compete honestly. Cheating, in any form, such as not drinking the full beer or starting to run before finishing the beer, will result in disqualification.
7. Timing
- This is a stopwatch-timed event. Volunteers will record your bib number and finish time as you cross the line after your final lap. While every effort will be made to ensure accurate results, manual timing is subject to minor human error and is not as precise as chip timing. In the spirit of this community event, we appreciate your understanding and sportsmanship.
8. Awards
- Final standings will be determined based on the fastest overall times across all heats, with awards presented to the top three male and female finishers overall.
- Run Crew group prizes will also be up for grabs (biggest crew, best team spirit etc).
Additional Rules:
Disqualification (DQ): If a participant is disqualified (e.g., fails to finish all beers), they will not receive a final time
Ties: In the case of a tie, it will be up to the race organizers to determine the final positions of the heat and/or issue a tie breaker.
Course Cutoffs: You may take up to a maximum of 12 minutes to complete your 4x400m laps and consume 4 cans of N/A beer, after 15 minutes has elapsed you will be disqualified.
Note: This event is intended to be fun, and participants are encouraged to enjoy themselves while respecting the rules and the spirit of the race. Always drink responsibly and look out for your fellow participants.
