Come one step closer to dawning

Every day people locked in the process of surviving

Take their small freedom to heart,

building a vision called some day and counting down til its start

A vision of an open horizon

A wisdom beyond enclosure

A hope safe from attack

A world so near and so possible

Where not everything is easy

But every human face is a friend.

Every day every day people die for that vision

They die for walking toward it

They die for showing it secretly to others

They die for making it known

They die for whispering and they die for shouting

Always with a question on their lips

How can these children here and there have better lives?

Better, not easier

Better, for they should never owe a debt they didn't care to owe,

for they should have what is theirs to own,

a home, a land, a responsibility,

and a piece of the mantle of humanity

And never once should they feel that humanity was a plague on anything Good.
