In Memory of Pirkko ❤️

I’m walking in memory of my mother, Pirkko, who died by suicide when I was just two years old.

For many years, my family and friends rarely spoke about her death because of the stigma surrounding suicide. Growing up without those conversations showed me just how deeply stigma can affect families and prevent people from reaching out for support.

Today, through my work with CMHA Windsor-Essex County Branch, I understand even more how important it is to create open, compassionate conversations about mental health and suicide. Ending the stigma can help more people feel safe asking for help when they need it—before it’s too late.
