Three years ago, we launched the We Run Bayview 5K to bring our community together through movement and purpose. This year, we're making our biggest move yet—bringing our third annual race to Third Street, one of the most iconic corridors in Bayview-Hunters Point.

Starting at Candlestick Point and running through the heart of Third Street to the finish line at the District 10 Health Fest (Southeast Community Center), every step we take together helps build a healthier, stronger Bayview. **Please note that this is a point-to-point course. Free shuttles will be running from the finish at SECC back to Candlestick.**

Even more meaningful—proceeds from this year's race will support the launch of a Healthy Food Bank initiative, helping provide Bayview residents with access to fresh, nutritious foods and wellness resources.

Together, we're not just running a race. We're investing in the health and future of our community.

Each registered participant will receive a meal voucher that can be redeemed at a participating local business along the Third Street corridor.

Run through Bayview. Celebrate at the finish line. Then grab a meal and show some love to our neighborhood businesses.

We Run Bayview (WRB) 5K was created to bring our community together through movement, wellness, and collective impact.

For three years, runners, families, neighbors, and local organizations have come together to celebrate the strength and resilience of Bayview-Hunters Point. More than a race, WRB is a community tradition that promotes healthy living, supports local initiatives, and creates opportunities for residents to connect with one another.

This year marks an exciting new chapter as we expand our impact by:

• Beginning at Candlestick Point, the race follows historic Third Street through the heart of Bayview-Hunters Point.
• Crossing the finish line at the District 10 Health Fest
• Supporting the launch of a Healthy Food Bank initiative serving San Francisco residents
• Connecting participants with local organizations, health resources, and community partners

Every registration helps expand access to healthy food, encourages active lifestyles, and invests in a healthier future for Bayview-Hunters Point.

Historical Significance of Candlestick Point State Recreation Area

Candlestick Point State Recreation Area (CPSRA) is a location deeply tied to the legacy of our founder, Claude Everhart.

Claude Everhart has been a pivotal figure in our community's development. As the chairman of the Candlestick Point Citizens’ Advisory Committee, he played a crucial role in transforming the Bayview–Hunters Point area into the beautiful CPSRA we enjoy today. Claude championed community-driven development, turning neglected and polluted land into a vibrant natural park built on landfill.

In the late 1950s, Candlestick Park Stadium's construction drastically changed the area, leaving it neglected and used as a dumpsite. By the early 1970s, the local community, including Everhart and Art Agnos, began lobbying to reclaim the land for a park.

Thanks to the efforts of Everhart, Agnos, and other community leaders, in 1974, California Assembly Speaker Willie Brown secured $10 million in funding for the park. The land was finally designated for a state park in 1977, with neighborhood residents and local businesses coming together to develop fishing piers, picnicking areas, and trails.
