The Buddy Walk is the world's most recognized public awareness and advocacy program for the Down syndrome community.
Established in 1995 by the National Down Syndrome Society (NDSS), the event celebrates Down Syndrome Awareness Month every October. It promotes acceptance, inclusion, and respect for individuals with Down syndrome.
The Walk: Typically a one-mile or shorter community stroll where families, friends, and individuals walk side-by-side.
Fundraising: Serves as a major fundraiser for local and national Down syndrome organizations to support advocacy, education, and programs.
Activities: Features family-friendly festivities, including music, games, food, and dancing.
Global Reach: Hundreds of walks take place annually across the United States and internationally, including regional events hosted by groups like the Down Syndrome Family Network in Trinidad and Tobago.
