The Ugly Sweater 5k Canicross Run and Walk is back at Kortright!
Saturday December 5th!
Tis the season for everyone and every dog, to don their ugliest of sweaters, onesies and outfits, and get to the start line for a 1k Elf Run and a timed 5k festive canicross and trail run/walk.
This will be happening at the Kortright Centre for Conservation in Woodbridge - lights and decorations will be in full force for this event!
There will be post-race treats and hot drinks for everyone as well as awards and prizing - so wear your ugliest Holiday sweater!
We will be raising funds for the Daily Bread Foodbank, who support the many individuals and families that will have a harder season than others. A portion of registration fees will be going towards the Daily Bread.
How can you help?

- Making a donation at the event and we will forward to the Daily Bread Food Bank
- You can drop off food or a monetary donation to the Daily Bread Food Bank, your local food bank or any fire department.
- You can also bring non-perishable items with you - we will have boxes at the registration area and we will deliver it for you.

RACE COURSE:
Humans and Canicrossers will follow the same 5k loop, which will be a combination of single and double-track, hills, fields, bridges and will all be on the trails around the Kortright Center.
1K ELF RUN
- The course is ~1k out and back
- Parents are welcome to run with their children.
- Elf Run participants will receive an official festive bib and a special giveaway.
CANCELLATION POLICY/REFUNDS
We believe in providing a safe and fun race environment, however, Mother Nature and Jack Frost are not always in the festive spirit.
- The event will go ahead, rain, shine or snow. If weather or other conditions present a danger to participants (thunder/lightning, blizzard etc), we maintain the right to cancel, modify or delay the start of the race.
- We do not offer refunds or deferrals - this is a fundraiser for the Daily Bread Food Bank.
- You may transfer your bib to another person - just click on the TRANSFER button on the home page and follow the instructions.
- Please don't run under someone else's bib - this is for safety reasons.
RACE RULES & REGULATIONS
The most important thing is to have fun and enjoy your race, but we do have some basic rules that will ensure that things run smoothly:
For humans:
- No baby joggers or strollers are allowed - this is a technical trail in certain sections.
- No headphones - not even in one ear - listen to the crunching snow and sing carols instead
- No bikes, skis, snowshoes, etc. are allowed on course
- Bibs must be worn on the front outer most layer of clothing or costume and must be visible at all times, otherwise, you won't find your high-res photos or get a time when you cross the mat.
For those racing the canicross event
- Proper Gear: You must have canicross specific harness, bungee and waist belt. If you only have a standard leash and collar, please join the Fun Run/Walk with your dog.
- Maintain Distance: Always keep a minimum of 2 leash lengths from other teams during the run.
- Leash Rule: All dogs must remain on leash at ALL times. Allowing your dog to be off-leash or at large is strictly prohibited. This rule ensures the safety of all participants and their dogs, prevents potential conflicts, and aligns with municipal by-laws and trail regulations.
- No On-Leash Greetings: Avoid on-leash greetings at all times to keep your dog focused in “work mode” and prevent leash tangling, which can be a safety issue.
- Reactive Dogs: Are welcome. We'll provide a yellow marker to help signal to others that your dog needs extra space. Additionally, the Canicross run categories will be released in waves to prevent bottle necking at the start and create more room at the starting line for reactive dogs.
- Passing Etiquette: When passing other trail users and/or canicross teams, ensure you give the person ahead enough time to move over after announcing “ON YOUR LEFT/RIGHT”. If you’re being passed, slow down and move off to the side of the trail. Hold on to your dog’s collar to prevent them from lunging at the passing team. If you're passing someone with a yellow marker identifying that their dog is reactive, please make sure to pull your dog to the side and give them space while passing.
- Poop and Scoop: Please make sure to pick up after your dog both on the course and off the course!
- Be Mindful of Pairings: If you’re running with two dogs, ensure they are well-matched in size, speed, and endurance. This ensures enjoyment and safety for both dogs.
