Run with purpose and leave with a challenge coin
Veterans Day deserves more than a nod. Lace up, head to Leonard G. Howell Park, and run or walk alongside the Oxford community in a 5K that puts your miles to work for Miami’s military-connected students.
Whether you’re chasing a personal best or simply looking for a good reason to get outside, you’re invited. And when you cross the finish line, there’s a special challenge coin waiting for you.

Registration closes Wednesday, Nov. 4.
The first 200 registrants will receive a premium bag donated by Pig Works, the creators of the Flying Pig Marathon.

Run for the military-connected Miami community
Your entry fee does more than get you to the starting line. Proceeds support Miami’s Military Community Advocates, student leaders working to strengthen the experience of military-connected students across campus.
This year, MCAs are putting that support into action through projects with Miami offices and organizations, including career workshops and a military-affiliated student career fair, improved onboarding for military-connected students, student research and surveying, and renewed outreach through Student Veterans of America chapters.
In other words: Your 5K helps Miami students move forward, too.
The course
Start at Leonard G. Howell Park, head out on an out-and-back course on the Oxford Area Trails.
Run it. Walk it. Bring a friend. Just get yourself to the starting line.
And yes, everyone who completes the 5K receives a Veterans Day 5K challenge coin. Because a finish-line photo is nice. A coin is better.
Your entry
General entry: $20
Student entry: $10
ROTC, active-duty military, and military veterans: Free with promo code VETERAN26
Why we’re running
The Military Community Advocates are Miami students themselves, giving them a firsthand understanding of what military-connected students need to thrive.
Their 2026-27 projects will support military-connected students through areas such as career preparation, admissions, student success and regional-campus outreach. Your participation helps make that work possible.
So come run for the cause, walk for the cause, or cheer from the sidelines. Just come ready to celebrate Veterans Day with your Miami community.
We’ll see you at the park. Bring your running shoes. We’ll bring the challenge coins.
