The Tyanna Foundation

Improving the lives of breast cancer patients is at the heart of the Tyanna Foundation which honors a mother’s life, love, and living legacy. Tyanna Barre O’Brien lost her battle with breast cancer in 1990 at the tender age of 48. Her daughters, Anne, Bridget, Megan, Sara & Kate O’Brien founded the Tyanna Foundation and the flagship event “BreastFest” which is a yearly event in Athens, Baltimore, Dewey Beach, New Jersey and Philadelphia. The all-volunteer organization raises funds which stay local to each BreastFest city. Since its inception in 1998, the Tyanna Foundation and its volunteers have worked tirelessly to increasing awareness and generating money for breast cancer services, education, treatment and patient care.

Proceeds from The 5&10K Run will stay local and will benefit Fox Chase Cancer Center’s Community Screening Program, which offers advanced technology, clinical expertise and state-of-the-art treatment to women in the Philadelphia region and beyond. Fox Chase Cancer Centers mobile screening van is the only one if its kind in the Philadelphia region and provides an easy way for women to get their mammograms at times and locations convenient to them. Of the 4,000 women screened each year, approximately 20% of the uninsured are asked to return for additional testing. Last year - we were able to provide over 50 screening mammograms and help to cover the expense of some follow-up testing and transportation for the uninsured and those at high risk for breast cancer.
