I recently heard a Family Service Agency volunteer describe her remarkable story of mentoring a young mother and her infant daughter. The mother had a long history of addiction and trauma, and was panicked about caring for her child. The volunteer spent hours (and years) providing loving support, practical help, access to resources, and parenting guidance. The mother also received counseling at FSA. Fast forward to today, the baby is now 22 y.o., graduating from college and launching into a new career, putting an end to an intergenerational cycle of teen parenthood and drug abuse.
