Our story…
Thalassemia is an inherited blood disorder where the patient’s body cannot make enough hemoglobin (a protein found in red blood cells). Many patients with thalassemia are dependent on blood transfusions for life. The Thalassemia Foundation of Canada advocates for adequate patient services and treatment in Canada; funds thalassemia scientific research; and promotes public awareness and education.
La thalassémie est un trouble sanguin héréditaire où le corps du patient ne peut pas produire suffisamment d'hémoglobine (une protéine présente dans les globules rouges). De nombreux patients atteints de thalassémie dépendent de transfusions sanguines à vie. La Fondation de la thalassémie du Canada plaide pour des services et des traitements adéquats pour les patients au Canada; finance la recherche scientifique sur la thalassémie; et promeut la sensibilisation et l'éducation du public.
