Description
More than 50,000 Canadians are affected by one of the over 160 types of neuromuscular disorders. For 64 years, Muscular Dystrophy Canada has been the leading charity helping improve the quality of life for individuals living with neuromuscular disorders, their families, caregivers and communities. We have been funding research and looking for new therapies and treatments which have helped Canadians affected live longer, more enriched lives. Although there is presently no cure for neuromuscular disorders, there are some medications and treatments that help manage some conditions and slow the progressive deterioration in muscle strength. For some individuals, these disorders are fatal.
Muscular Dystrophy Canada offers a wide range of programs and services that include: funding equipment to improve daily life, providing emotional support, information, education and advocacy. An important part of fulfilling Muscular Dystrophy Canada’s mission is alleviating financial pressures for Canadians living with neuromuscular disorders and enabling them to lead more independent lives.
