Virtual 5K Run/Walk and 1 Mile Fun Run
October 11 - 18th, 2020
The Miles for Myles 5K and Fun Run is an annual fundraising event hosted by the Lunenburg XC/Track & Field Boosters. This year the event is being held virtually due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic and the need to maintain social distance and avoid large gatherings. Our mission is promoting “Community Through Caring”. Funds raised from this event will support the XC/Track & Field Boosters, including a scholarship for a Lunenburg student-athlete, and also the Lunenburg Food Pantry / Lunenburg Turkey Hill Family Lions Club.
This event is dedicated to Myles John McCarron, a Lunenburg student--athlete who, at age 16, died while a passenger in a speed related accident. This tragedy occurred shortly after the *LTAFA was formed with the goal and dream of bringing athletic facilities to Lunenburg. In an outpouring of love and support for Myles and his family, the Miles for Myles race was established by the LTAFA, and later facilitated by the Lunenburg PTO, becoming an annual event from 2002-2019, raising over $200,000 towards what is now the Mulligan/McCarron Lunenburg Athletic Facility as well as providing funds for school-wide programs and the No Need to Speed campaign. “Without a sense of caring there can be no sense of community”.
*LTAFA stands for Lunenburg Track and Fields Association and was formed in 1999 in response to the critical need for an athletic facility in Lunenburg. Working tirelessly to raise funds and partner with local businesses, committees, and taxpayers, LTAFA made the dream a reality through thousands of hours of hard work, personal labor, sacrifice, and fundraising.
