5K: 8 a.m. | 1-Mile Trot: 9:15 a.m.
The Mule Kick 5K is a certified 3.1 mile course that starts and finishes at Riverwalk Park in Columbia, while the 1-Mile Trot is a fun run — or walk! — for all ages. The 2021 race will take place Saturday, October 23.
The Maury Regional Health Care Foundation is proud to host this long-standing tradition that supports the Foundation’s mission of a healthier Maury County. Proceeds from the 2021 Mule Kick 5K & 1-Mile Trot will provide operational support for Maury Regional Health’s mobile unit, which provides health care services — including COVID-19 vaccination when supplies are available — to at-risk patients in rural and underserved areas.
A portion of the proceeds will also be donated to the Foundation’s Wellness and Aquatics Center Healthy Living Endowment and to the Columbia Parks & Recreation Department. Plus, the school in Maury County with the most participation will receive a donation to their physical education program from the Foundation.
Changes to the 2021 Race
This annual race is traditionally held as part of Columbia's Mule Day celebration each spring; however, in response to the COVID-19 pandemic, the race was ultimately postponed to October 23, 2021.
Those individuals who previously registered and paid to participate in the postponed 2020 race have been automatically registered to participate in the race on October 23 with no further action or payment required. Not sure if you already registered? Click here to confirm your registration or call the Maury Regional Health Care Foundation office at 931.380.4075.
The safety of all race participants, staff and volunteers is our top priority. Click here to learn more about our commitment to safety.
COVID-19 Safety Precautions
Based on current CDC guidance and recommendations from our medical advisors, the Maury Regional Health Care Foundation has implemented several new safety measures for the 2021 Mule Kick 5K & 1-Mile Trot that prioritize our racers’ health and wellbeing.
Safety precautions for the October 23, 2021, race include:
- Masks are requested. Participants are asked to wear a face covering during all non-competition times, including packet pick-up as well as pre- and post-race at the start/finish line. Masks will be provided to anyone who would like one.
- Packet pick-up will take place during a convenient and socially distanced drive-through on Friday, October 22, from 3 to 6 p.m. in the parking lot at Riverside Elementary School (203 Carter St, Columbia, TN 38401), which is located across the street from Riverwalk Park.
- Participants are strongly encouraged to pick up their packets via the drive-through event; however, packet pick-up will also be available on the morning of the race (Saturday, October 23) from 6:30 to 7:45 a.m. at Riverwalk Park Pavilion. Tables will be set up under the pavilion with markers on the floor to allow for appropriate social distancing.
- The starting line will be staggered to allow for social distancing. Ten minutes before the 5K begins at 8 a.m., participants will be invited to line up by taking their place at socially distanced markers at the starting line. Participants’ times begin and end when crossing the start and finish lines, respectively, so placement in the lines and waves will not affect final times.
- Spectators are encouraged to watch from their homes or vehicles rather than in person at the park. For those who wish to watch friends or family members competing in the race, the start/finish line will be streamed at Facebook.com/MuleKick5K.
- There will not be an in-person awards ceremony following the race. After completing the 5K and/or 1-Mile Trot, we ask participants not to mingle at the finish line or in the park. Instead of the traditional in-person awards ceremony, results will be streamed later in the day at Facebook.com/MuleKick5K and awards will be mailed to the winners the following week.
The Maury Regional Health Care Foundation is carefully monitoring the spread of COVID-19 in our region. Any changes to the race will be communicated to participants via email, this website and at Facebook.com/MuleKick5K.
For additional information about the race, contact the Foundation at 931.380.4075.
