Our family’s journey began 15 years ago, and we are forever indebted to the physicians and therapists who have helped us throughout the years. Approximately 1 in 54 children is diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder (ASD), and many families struggle while navigating the difficult road of caring for a loved one with autism. Support and training to help these families cope are critical, yet not adequately funded and depend upon philanthropy. 

This year’s Falmouth Road Race (Sunday, August 15^th) marks my 8^th year coordinating a team to fundraise on behalf of the Lurie Center for Autism’s Family Resource Support Team. It is a consultative lifeline which meets one-on-one with families, and fields an estimated 7,500 calls per year, providing guidance about insurance, educational support, adult services, sibling adjustment concerns, etc. 

The generous donations collected through this event ensure that the Family Resource Support Team is just a phone call away for those families who need it. I am not actually running this year’s race; however, as Team Captain, I am authorized to fundraise and add to our team’s total.
