My Story…

Bonswa! I am so happy to share that I am once again running the Falmouth Road Race for Team Be Like Brit! After traveling to Haiti as a Britsionary in 2018 and experiencing the faith, hope, and love that exude from the Haitian people, especially the kids at Brit's Home, a piece of my heart was forever left in Haiti. It's been a privilege to stay involved and support this organization, even while stateside!

As you may know, after running the Falmouth Road Race for Be Like Brit in 2019 I was so excited to once again join the team in 2020! Because of the COVID-19 pandemic Team Be Like Brit chose to defer to 2021, so I am finally ready to hit the pavement. I want to sincerely thank all of you who helped me kickstart my fundraising over a year ago. That money has been added to this fundraising page and is a huge part of my overall goal. It has meant so much to me and I've been eagerly waiting for the chance to make it count! I'm thrilled to share that even with the decreased field size this year, all charity runners have the opportunity to run in person, so I will be running in Falmouth on August 15th!

Thank you for your support in making it possible for me to be a member of Team Be Like Brit, and for helping to ensure that Be Like Brit can continue to raise the next generation of leaders in Haiti. I am truly grateful for every kind word, encouragement, prayer, and donation. Together we are making a difference in the lives of 66 inspirational kiddos who deserve the opportunity to pursue their dreams. They continue to amaze me and each one of them has such a bright future!

Why Be Like Brit?

In January 2010 Britney Gengel, a native of Rutland, MA, opened her heart to the Haitian people while on a service trip to Haiti with Lynn University. Brit was tragically killed when a catastrophic earthquake struck on January 12, 2010. Just hours before her death, Brit had sent the following text to her mom:

"They love us so much and everyone is so happy. They love what they have and they work so hard to get nowhere, yet they are all so appreciative. I want to move here and start an orphanage myself."

Brit's family persevered through the unthinkable, fulfilled her last wish, and began the Be Like Brit Foundation. Today, Brit's Home is a 19,000 square foot earthquake-proof home for 66 children shaped in the letter "B" for Brit. It stands strong and bold as a beacon of hope for the people of Haiti and the children that Brit loved. Now in their 11th year, their commitment is still to continue the compassion of Britney Gengel by serving the children of Haiti through sustaining a safe, nuturing home rooted in the virtues of Faith, Hope, and Love while developing a sense of social responsibility, community involvement, and unconditional love.

I would love to tell you more about Be Like Brit and my time in Haiti, and I encourage you to visit their website: http://www.belikebrit.org
