Help Alicia raise money

For participating in The 2021 ASICS Falmouth Road Race

My Story…

I am running (well walking-more about that later) the Falmouth Road Race this year with my college Holy Cross track teammates and lifelong friends Colleen, Mary Kate and Katie to raise money for The Courageous Parents Network (CPN) https://courageousparentsnetwork.org/.  I am honored to run for CPN in memory of my niece, Emerson, who died of complications of a progressive neurologic disorder, Gaucher Type 2.  I also run in honor and memory of my patients with serious and life altering/limiting respiratory conditions. CPN is a non-profit organization that provides resources to families and providers caring for children with serious medical conditions.  CPN empowers families to advocate for what is best for their child and family as they make decisions and cope during the journey of caring for a child with serious illness.  Many of my patients and colleagues, my sister-in-law and brother-in-law, and I have benefited from CPN resources.  I am so grateful to CPN for the support that they provide as it helps me to take better care of my patients.

Unfortunately I have to walk this year and can't run.  Around the time when our dog, Lightning, and I started training I began to experience severe back and leg pain.  MRI revealed a herniated disc at L5/S1 and my doctor called me (while I was running with Kim Martin on a beautiful beach in Emerald Isle) and told me that I had to stop running.  I will be having surgery to fix this, but not until August 19th.  I feel fortunate that I am able to walk and it will be just like college when I was the slowest of the HC track girls and Col, Mary Kate, Katie and others kindly ran back for me and accompanied me the rest of the way.  Mary Kate and I will be sure to belt out a Les Mis song to pump ourselves up before the race!
