My Story…

The 21 years that I had with my mom--my best friend--was not nearly enough time.

For someone who was incredibly hardworking, kind, compassionate, healthy, thoughtful, and any other positive characteristic you can think of, my mom's diagnosis of Glioblastoma Multiforme in January 2016 came as a shock to all.

Despite enduring multiple rounds of chemo, suffering a stroke and seizures, losing her independence, and so much more, there was one thing that remained constant throughout her journey: her determination to KEEP GOING regardless of what life threw at her... with a smile always on her face.

Although Glioblastoma has a prognosis of 12-15 months, my mom fought HARD for 29 months. I don't say it lightly when I say that she never once complained--she frequently said to her doctors, "I am not a statistic." And she was right. "It could be worse!" was also one of her sayings, when, in my eyes, brain cancer was as worse as it could get.

My mom passed away on June 12th, 2018. Although my world hasn't been the same since then, I always find myself thinking of her, remembering the incredible woman she was, and using her as my inspiration to keep following my dreams.

I know she is with me every single day... and I am who I am because of her.

That's why I'm honored to be running this year's Falmouth Road Race for TEAM empowerHER--an organization that hosts events and offers a mentor match program for girls who lost their moms at a young age. As someone who loves to run, I'm that much more excited to do so when I know I'm supporting a nonprofit with a mission so near and dear to my heart.

I appreciate your thoughtfulness, love, and support.
