My Story…
Just two years ago, a light 5-minute walk was the hardest workout I had ever attempted. Chemotherapy and radiation had broken my body and mind down to the core and, despite a favourable prognosis for Hodgkin's Lymphoma, I found it impossible to look beyond the next treatment, the next round of blood work, or the next scan.
So WHY did I start training for a marathon (42.2km) the moment I felt my body had finally recovered from the treatments? Because I know that everyday there are still thousands of active patients and caregivers who are fighting to see the light at the end of their tunnel.
My goal is not only to finish the Virtual Ottawa Marathon and give hope to active patients, but also to raise $5,000 directly supporting those newly diagnosed, people in treatment, and those navigating life after a blood cancer.
I believe that together we can be the light for Canadians affected by blood cancers when it matters most.
Thank you for your support,
Dan Chapman

NOTE: Cancer did not stop because of a global pandemic. Since the pandemic started in 2020, non-urgent surgeries stopped, clinical trials were suspended and scientists in labs put their research on hold. It is a trend that puts blood cancer research and patient care in a dangerously fragile state. Needless to say, it is an incredibly important time to support organizations like the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society of Canada.
