My Story…
When I was studying for my Bachelor of Social Work many years ago, we were told 1 in 3 women will be assaulted at some point in their lives. Today, many years later, the statistics are no better. With the Pandemic they are worse than ever.
During this past year, Assaulted Women's Help Line counsellors answered over 93,000 calls. This was an increase of 86% over the year before.
Monthly call averages increased from 4,000 a month to almost 9000.
AWHL has increased staff levels and initiated online counselling, still 15% of calls go unanswered. This is why I have decided to raise money for the AWHL again this year.
Note that the AWHL is a provincial response for assaulted women and seniors.
The pandemic has shown the best and the worst in people. Many people do not know how to deal with the stress of their job, loss of job, loss of outlets like going to the gym, being able to meet with friends or even having a physical break from a stressful relationship by getting out of the house.
Please support my run and help the people calling into the AWHL.
